East Meets West
I seldom watch NBA but I suddenly found myself drawn to one player --- Yao Ming. Even I, myself, am having a hard time explaining why I admire him and why I find him "so handsome". Yes I know most of my friends don't often approve of my so called "taste" in guys. I have a weird way of defining someone who is attractive for me. (That's why they call it opinion --- it's subjective!) I remembered one time during college, I had a crush on someone who was a batch higher than me. He was a senior, I was still a junior. I excitedly told my friends that I found the most handsome guy in the whole world. They looked at him and they said, "Huh?!" Okay, okay, now I admit, he is really not the most handsome guy (although he is still handsome the last time I saw him --- that was when I was taking up MBA, he was taking law), but hey, he is smart!
Back to Yao Ming...
I need to justify why I like this Chinese sports star. Here are the top 5 reasons why I like him:
1. I like his name --- Ming means bright, derived from the Chinese character that unifies the sun and the moon. What could be better than unifying the sun and the moon?! I am now thinking of calling my next pet "Ming" or "Ming-Ming"... =P
2. He still lives with his family. He is a typical Asian guy who is sometimes irritated by how a mom is overprotective but deep inside, is overflowing with love for her. Even though initially he didn't want to play basketball when he was young, he still endured the long hours of training because of his love for his parents. Amazing guy...
3. We are of the same age. (Pasok siya sa age range ko.)
4. He loves McDonald's and home-cooked Chinese meals. I like his east-meets-west taste in food. Good! His taste buds are not limited to xiao long bao and green tea!
5. Oh and did I mention he's already a multi-millionaire at the age of 25?! And the good thing about this is that he doesn't act like one. So humble and simple!
Too bad he already has a girlfriend...and I don't look Chinesey-enough for him....Maybe if I change my name to Ju Li...there's still hope.
