Miracle

After meeting up with my classmates one night, I was driving along EDSA when I remembered I still have a luncheon meat sandwich in my bag. I forgot to eat it at the office because I had a lot of pending tasks. Sometimes, when we become busy with our temporal world, we tend to forget the important things in life. We forget we need sustenance, we need nourishment for us to go through our lives.Thinking of the sandwich in my bag, I began to pray to God. I talked to Him and told Him about the sandwich. I prayed that I might meet someone who needs nourishment, who needs someone to feed him. I know that this deed is not an example of true generosity for real unselfishness happens when we give something that we cherish. The sandwich is just an excess. Still, I wanted someone to have it because he needs it. As I passed by a small market place, I saw a mother and her son walking, carrying tattered bags. I was about to stop and press the hazard button but as I looked in my rearview mirror, the cars' glaring headlights behind me beamed at me. I decided to drive ahead and hope that I would find a hungry kid soon. As I slowly drove, I got nearer to my village entrance. I fervently looked for kids selling sampaguitas but I found none since it was already 11pm. I did not want to go home feeling defeated. I again prayed very hard but I was losing hope. I told myself that I know God will answer my prayer. He always does. So I decided to go back and look for a hungry kid outside our village. As I was about to turn back, I saw a solitary figure pushing a 'kariton' and I knew in my heart that God has already answered my prayer. I closed my eyes (only for a fleeting moment) and breathed a sigh of relief. The Lord never fails. I prayed for Him to give me a miracle and He gave me my miracle when I was about to give up. I was about to turn and go back because I thought that He failed to give me one. At that moment, there came my miracle and I would never forget his face. Full of sadness and suffering but his eyes sparkled a twinge of hope. Yes, hope. Hope is the one that keeps all of us alive. We can only find hope through God because He alone is the one who strengthens, nourishes, and loves us.
